Case Studies

In this section, the focus switches from a large-scale coverage of the period to specific case studies in the fields of Dentistry, Mental Health, and Childbirth. These three categories are identified as areas in which the average person would commonly seek treatment/care, or had treatment imposed upon them. The subsections will continue to focus upon the broader theme of innovation, however, there is also a strong emphasis upon individual stories, experiences, and the associated racism, classism, and sexism that was prevalent in medicine at the time.
